Ask for Help

Why is it so hard for humans to ask for help?

I was chatting with a good friend on Monday—we were talking about new ventures in business and in our personal lives. I was telling her all about my big picture ideas and where I eventually want to be and how I was a little unclear about how to get there and what to focus on.

I find it way too easy to get stuck in the little details I don't know how to do, or maybe don't feel super confident in. Is this just me? oh, you too?

In an age where entrepreneurship is the norm, we find ourselves needing to be all the things, We need to be a straight-forward communicator, a perfect writer, prolific with our social media, an iPhone camera guru, our own tech expert, budget and investor extraordinaire, and skilled, of course, at making everyone else think that it all comes effortless to us. And wait...what is TikTok? Need to know that now, too.

I'm not even listing all the other things we need to be amazing at—the most important things—maintaining intimate relationships, remembering your grandma's birthday, being mom or dad of the year, coaching nightly t-ball games, volunteering at church, eating healthy, staying in shape, getting dinner on the table, reading, keeping a clutter-free life, raking those darned leaves, getting enough sleep, making that mammogram appointment, etc.

Seems simple enough. Right? (Insert eye roll here.)

My friend said she kept hearing the words....just ask for help. JUST ASK. Why do we try to do everything or know everything ourselves?

Since then, those words have been shooting around in my brain like a wayward pinball marble. Why is it so hard for humans to say, "I need help?" Maybe if we all say it together.

Ready?

Ok...1...2...3...."I need help!"

Aw, that felt good. Didn't it?

Now that you know you need help, decide what it is you can outsource. Unfortunately, we can't outsource everything....we can't have someone else exercise for us or drink enough water for us. What I wouldn't do to have someone sleep for me so that I can stay up all night doing all the things I didn't have time for that day! Imagine the books that I could read or the words I could write! I could become a world-class painter!

So you can't outsource everything, but there are things you can sign off on. What about house cleaning? Can you sign up for grocery delivery? Or maybe you can find someone to take on some of your writing or editing tasks. (Cough, cough)

I know someone who does some of that here and there. 🤩 (Thank you for that shameless plug.)

Contact me and we can chat about how I can help you the most.

No, I can't scrub your toilets. (Ok, I can, but I don't want to.)
